AI That Runs While You Sleep. Anthropic Just Shipped It.

The Signal: Yesterday Anthropic opened Claude Code Routines in research preview. Scheduled AI agents that run on their cloud. Your laptop can be closed. This is the moment AI stopped being a chat tool and started being an employee. Most coaches won't notice for six months. By then, the people who moved first will be running five agents while their competition is still typing prompts.

Most coaches I talk to open Claude or ChatGPT the same way they open Google.

They type a question.

They read the answer.

They close the tab.

That's a pencil.

Anthropic just turned it into an employee.

What Actually Shipped Yesterday

On April 14, Anthropic opened the research preview of something called Claude Code Routines.

The name sounds technical. The implication is huge.

A routine is a saved AI job. You write the instructions once. You pick the data it can touch. You give it a trigger. Then it just... runs.

Not when you open your laptop.

Not when you remember.

On a schedule. On an API call. On an event somewhere in your stack.

Anthropic runs it on their cloud. You can close your computer. You can go to sleep. It keeps working.

The Three Triggers That Change Everything

🕑

Schedule

Run every morning at 6 AM. Every Monday. Every first of the month. Whatever cadence you set.

🔗

API Call

Trigger it from any tool. A form submission, a Zapier hook, a webhook from your CRM.

GitHub Event

Hooked to PRs, pushes, issues, releases. For anyone building a product with a codebase.

Read those three again.

The first two apply to your coaching business right now.

You don't need to be a developer. You need to understand that AI just became something you can schedule like a Google Calendar event.

The Limits Tell You Who This Is For

Plan Routines / day What that buys you
Pro 5 Daily lead recap. Weekly newsletter draft. Client check-in digest.
Max 15 A content engine. Lead scoring. Follow-up sequencing. Pipeline hygiene.
Team / Enterprise 25 Entire departments automated. Multiple agents, multiple schedules.

Five daily routines on the Pro plan.

That's not a feature. That's five employees you don't have to hire.

The Shift Nobody's Naming Yet

For the last two years, AI was a conversation.

You typed. It responded. You copied. You pasted.

The whole value chain was bottlenecked on you showing up to the chat window.

This ships that whole paradigm to the retirement home.

The old way (2023 to now)

  • Open Claude or ChatGPT
  • Paste context every time
  • Read the answer
  • Copy it somewhere
  • Close the tab
  • Repeat tomorrow

The new way (April 14, 2026 forward)

  • Write the job description once
  • Connect the data sources once
  • Set the schedule
  • Walk away
  • Output shows up in Slack, Notion, email
  • Every day. Forever.

The first era of consumer AI was about speed. The second era is about absence. The tool that delivers value when you're not there is the tool that actually scales you.

Five Routines A Coach Can Set Up This Weekend

Stop reading this like news. Start reading it like a punch list.

1. Daily Lead Recap

Trigger: 7 AM every morning. Job: scan your Calendly, your Apollo inbox, and your Stripe dashboard. Post a Slack message with the three leads that need your attention today, why, and the draft message to send them.

2. Weekly Content Pipeline

Trigger: Sunday at 8 PM. Job: pull last week's podcast transcript, Slack channel wins, and client call notes. Draft three LinkedIn posts, one newsletter section, and one blog outline. Deliver to your drafts folder.

3. Monthly Offer Audit

Trigger: 1st of every month. Job: review your landing pages against competitor pricing, current positioning, and last month's customer feedback. Flag the offers that feel stale.

4. Client Intake Pre-Call

Trigger: API call from your booking tool. Job: research the prospect who just booked. LinkedIn, company, last three posts. Write you a one-page brief 30 minutes before the call.

5. Friday Clarity Ritual

Trigger: Friday at 5 PM. Job: summarize what you shipped, what moved the needle, and the one question you want to sit with over the weekend. Drop it in your journaling app.

That last one is my favorite.

It's the inner work routine. The one that keeps you from becoming a content factory with no soul.

The Real Unlock Is Mental, Not Technical

Here's the quiet truth about Claude Code Routines.

The hard part was never the technology.

The hard part is believing a task could run without you.

Most coaches don't have a scheduling problem. They have a control problem.

They rewrite the same LinkedIn hook five times because they can't trust the draft. They write the same welcome email by hand because they can't trust the system. They research every lead personally because they can't trust the research.

Routines don't fix that by themselves.

What they do is expose it.

Once a piece of your business can run without you touching it, the question becomes: why was I touching it?

That's the question most coaches avoid for a decade.

What I'm Doing This Week

At ElevateAI, we rebuilt our entire Content OS engine in the last 48 hours to run as routines.

Blog research runs at 5 AM. Intel logging runs at 6 AM. Social drafts get generated at 8 PM for the next day. Client call prep fires automatically the morning of the call.

My job is no longer making the content.

My job is reviewing, signing, and shipping.

That shift alone freed up about 12 hours a week.

And we're still on day two.

Your Move

You don't need to rebuild your business around Claude Code Routines this week.

You need to pick one thing you do every Monday morning that feels like a chore.

One small, repeatable, soul-deadening task.

Ask yourself: could an employee do this with the right instructions and the right context?

If yes... that's your first routine.

Set it up. Let it run Monday. Feel what it's like to wake up and see the work already done.

That feeling is what the next decade of your business will be built on.

Or you can keep typing into the chat window.

Your call.
